HEADING
WEST & NORTH
1.5 – 2hrs and you can tie up at the Mapua waterfront
to enjoy a combination of art, craft, collectables and fine food. Tidal
conditions at the entrance give you either a 1 hour stop over before heading
out to sea again, or you can stay over night to take it at a more leisurely
pace and catch the morning tide.
3 – 4 hrs sailing away are the golden beaches and
scented forests of the Abel Tasman National Park, close proximity and postcard
settings make this an ideal escape location. The beauty of this spot is
appreciated by many and it is a popular destination all year round, especially
during the warmer summer months.
3 – 4 hrs past Abel Tasman National park will have
you into Golden Bay where more beaches await. The locality of Tarakohe has
a marina making convenient stop over where you can sample the local fare.
HEADING
NORTH & EAST
4 – 5 hrs away is Crosseilles harbour, a stepping
stone to D’Urville Island or French Pass and the Marlborough Sounds,
it is a peaceful and interesting area to explore in its own right.
6 – 8hrs away is the remote and rugged splendour
of D’urville Island. A little longer stretch, but if peace and solitude
are what you are seeking, then this is the place where you are going to
find it more often than not. The added bonus of a trip this way is the increased
likelihood of a Dolphin encounter. Greville Harbour, Port Hardy and the
infamous French Pass (where you can gain new appreciation of natures tidal
forces) are a few of the highlights around the island.
8hrs + Will have you into the Marlborough Sounds, with
numerous scenic treasures and hideaway highlights, suffice to say it is
a whole new world to explore.
